Pre Charter Maintenance

With a yacht charter for 8 people booked this Saturday it means a complete once over for the yacht and equipment. So this is a brief summary of what we have just done and what we do every time our yacht gets chartered.
Not in any order, we do the following.

Engines - Pair of Volvo Penta D6-310.
Check sea water strainers are clear.
Check both engine oil levels.
Check cooling water levels.
Check belts are in good condition and under tension.
Check for any leakage.
Check fuel levels.

The Boat - Jeanneau Prestige 36 Flybridge.
Top up water system, used for flushing toilet and general sink water.
Check bilges are dry & manually test bilge pumps.
Switch on all 3 VHF seats we carry, listen for general traffic whilst doing other jobs.
Switch on and test Sat Nav sets.
Ensure anchor has safety strop in place.

Safety Equipment.
Check life raft is in place with hydrostatic release in good order.
Check all life jackets are present ( we test and check for damage as they are put away from previous charter )
Check horseshoe buoys and lights.
Check emergency equipment locker for flares, throw lines, first aid kit, harnesses etc.

Supplies

I brought new drinking water with me to replaced that used on previous charter.
Milk and biscuits.

General

As it`s been 7 days since her last run i have fired up the engines for 10 minutes or so.
I vary the revs alittle, not too many, but not just sitting a idle speeds. Check exhausts for water and smoke.
Check engine room carefully whilst running for leaks of gases or liquids. All looks good.
I also quickly drop each engine into gear forward and astern to check she engages, all ok.

Passage Planning

I have a good idea of what my guests want to do on Saturday so I now check the weather forecast again ( been keeping and eye on it all week ). Also check the tides for the areas we are going to. No need to book a berth at our lunchtime spot this time of year.

All good, ready to go.

I will be here an hour before the charter to remove the fly bridge covers etc and run her up and do a once over visual check. Ready for the Solent Yacht Charter.
